Dear Friend,

If American Airlines Nexos is new to you, welcome!  We’d love to share a little more about our magazine with you (and if you are a regular reader, then here’s a refresher course.)

Nexos is a bi-monthly inflight magazine published in Spanish and Portuguese that caters to the affluent, highly-educated Latin American frequent traveler of American Airlines residing in the U.S. and abroad.

The name Nexos means “point of intersection”. Our tagline, “Su conexión al mundo”, translates into “Your connection to the world”. We live up to our promise by delivering a keenly sensitive and culturally relevant perspective on Arts and Entertainment, Travel, Sports, Business, and Personal Style.

En breve, which means “in brief” is our front of book section highlighting quick notes on hotels, travel products, the latest in electronic gadgetry, and more.

The body of the book is made up of departments such as Horizontes, which means “Horizons” and is our travel department.

Culturama is an interesting exploration of traditions throughout the globe and information on exhibits, museums and cultural events.

In our business section, Negocios, you will find informative stories with an interesting twist about business as well as interviews of Latin business leaders and companies from around the world.

The articles in Buena Vida are all about “the good life” and feature world-class gastronomy, as well as the latest trends in lifestyle products and services.

Telón is our back-of-the- book section designed to delight our readers with reviews of the latest CDs, books, and movies.

Our ever-popular column, ¿Sabía usted?, has moved to this section and is now a companion to the last word of each issue, Última palabra, a hilarious sketch of bureaucracy written by the well-known Mexican humorist and diplomat, Carlos García de Alba.

Our feature well is the staple of our magazine and focuses on Places, People, Passions and Photo Essays.

Places: Every cover of Nexos features an exciting destination. We bring the world to our readers by providing a well-balanced mix of tried-and-true destinations as well as stories on unique, exotic, and off-the-beaten-path adventures.

People: A hallmark of Nexos is our exclusive and insightful interviews of leading Latin Americans in the arts, sports, and popular culture. Being interviewed by Nexos has become a status symbol for long-established celebrities as well as a signal that an emerging new celebrity has indeed arrived.

Passions: This feature is an intriguing look at activities that ignite the passions of their practitioners. The subjects of this feature are as varied as Salsa dancing, underwater cave diving, unusual and extreme professions around the globe, vintage auto collections, and many others.

Photography: The Nexos photo essay is a one-of-a-kind showcase of some of the world’s leading photographers’ perspectives on a diverse variety of topics such as man’s relationship to nature, the art of tequila distillation, the tension between architecture and nature, etc. The photographs and artistic layout of each essay combine with beautiful, but brief, prose to present a compelling view of a given subject.

These are the things that, together, make American Airlines Nexos an award-winning magazine.  We hope you feel enriched each time you read Nexos.  Please visit us again soon.

Sincerely,

James Ricks
